Orihuela town has approximately 50,000 inhabitants and is located 50km south of Alicante on the N340 motorway.
Unlike most towns with a pueblo and costa, Orihuela Costa is 20km away from it’s inland town. The Costa has 16km of rugged coastline with clear water and great beaches. Those of note are Playa Mil Palmeras, Campoamor, Zenia, Cabo Ruig and Punta Prima. There is a variety of accommodation here to suit all budgets.
The town of Orihuela sits on the River Seguria with the old town and newer commercial side linked by two bridges. It’s a lively town, with an historic old quarter of medieval winding streets. It’s historic past means the town has become one of the major cultural centres of Alicante Province, and there is some great architecture to be discovered here. There is an impressive Gothic Cathedral, Palace of Rubalcalva and many other churches to be seen.
Nightlife can be found down the costa, but Orihuela town has plenty of more understated bars and terrific restaurants. There are several golf courses in the area and along with the historic town and nearby beaches, Orihuela has something to offer everyone.
